Update security systems
Installing firewalls and antivirus software is extremely important. However, one major mistake that most of the people make is that they neglect updating them. There is a perpetual war going on between developers of computer security systems and developers of hacking software and viruses.
With the two groups vying to get better of each other, the security systems become outdated very quickly.
So, even if you install the best security system today, it becomes obsolete and useless a few months down the line. In order to maintain optimum security always, you should update firewalls and anti-virus software with the latest versions.
Configure your anti-virus systems such that they run constantly in the background. You should not have to run it by activating the scan feature. Always configure it so that the security system runs as long as your computer does. It should start with the boot process and shut off when you shut off the system.
Remove external memory devices while shutting off the computer
One of the main sources of security threats to a computer is the external memory devices such as pen drives and CDs. Most of the malware present in these devices enter the computer when it boots.
So, always make it a point to remove these devices as soon as you finish using them. If you let them remain in the system when you shut down, chances of your computer getting affected by malware is much higher.
Be attentive to the performance of your computer
Despite all the measures you take, it is quite possible that some malware or virus gets into your system. When it does, it affects the performance of the computer.
One of the most obvious signs is when your system slows down without reason. If you are unable to make out why your system is slow, you should look out for a virus.
Secondly, your computer starts behaving weirdly. Strange messages start popping up on your screen, programs begin to run automatically and your system might shut down without notice.
If such things happen, it is very likely that a virus is behind it. So, get it checked.
With awareness about computer security and attention towards your computers, you can have a secure system.
