Keywords are lifeblood of SEO process. Including them in title tags brings you closer to search engines. In a survey by SEOmoz involving 37 leading SEO experts in the industry, 35 respondents emphasized placement of keywords in title tags to achieve better website rankings.
Structure your title tag with your primary and secondary keywords first followed by your brand name, for optimal results. This is because search engines give importance to terms in the beginning of title tags; having keywords in these strategic positions helps boost rankings. Also, such structuring makes title tags more understandable for users.
Don’t make your title tag a long list of keywords though. Usage of excessive keywords contributes to spam.
For example, the Zoostr title tag for the home page is Small Business Software | Zoostr (see image)
